Zeeheldenkwartier
One of The Hague's most characterful neighbourhoods: art nouveau façades, busy terraces and independent shops, a short walk from the city centre.
A neighbourhood with character
The Zeeheldenkwartier lies between the city centre and the seaside resort of Scheveningen. It was built between 1870 and 1890 on the former estate of Queen Anna Paulowna. The streets are named after Dutch naval heroes and explorers: Zoutman, Piet Hein, De Ruyter, Tasman and Van Diemen.
What makes the area special is the mix. Grand townhouses with art nouveau details stand next to small workers' houses, studios next to coffee bars, and specialist shops next to restaurants where you need to book. Young professionals, creatives and many internationals feel at home here.

What's on in the area?
Three shopping streets
Prins Hendrikstraat, Zoutmanstraat and Piet Heinstraat, with independent shops, delis, bakeries, vintage, design and plenty of places to eat and drink.
Market and festival
A market on Prins Hendrikplein every Thursday, and the annual Zeeheldenfestival on the same square.
Green spaces
In the middle of the city lies the Zeeheldentuin, with allotments, fruit trees and a natural playground.
Parking in the area
Parking pressure in the Zeeheldenkwartier is among the highest in The Hague. Visitors park on the street with a parking app or in one of the public garages on the edge of the city centre.
