Who is De Zeeheld for?

Parking for the people who live and work here

The Zeeheldenkwartier is compact, historic and much loved, and you notice that on the street. Parking spaces are scarce, especially since spaces on Zoutmanstraat made way for wider trams. That is why the Municipality of The Hague bought this garage, renovated it and opened it to the neighbourhood.

  • Residents and businesses on Zoutmanstraat have priority.
  • Other Zeeheldenkwartier residents come next.
  • Hotels in the area can rent a limited number of spaces for guests.
  • Other applicants are welcome if spaces are left.

The story of this place

From convent school to neighbourhood garage

More than a century ago, the girls of the neighbourhood went to school where cars are parked today. In 1889 architect Nicolaas Molenaar designed the Mariaschool here, with a convent and chapel for the sisters who taught there. After the sisters left in 1963 the building disappeared, and a parking garage eventually took its place, which has had an eventful history of its own.
